Upcycled vinyl: Ipod case/change purse/whatever you want it to be!

Join us Saturdays at tatertotsandjello.com for the weekend wrap up
    party!

Ok, so today has been rough for me craft-wise. I am trying desperately to make a good variety of wares for the scholarship tournament, and in the meantime my dog wants to play. I had to stop and go run around with him a few times. Right now, he is sound asleep. Phew. It really is like having a baby again.

So, one of the things I made today, started with the left over sleeves from the "puppy leather jacket" project (that I have YET to finish). I looked at it and thought, hmm...I see ipod pouch!

So, in an effort to battle off the crazy doggy, I had to cut out a few photos. However, it is a very basic project, so I think I can give you enough details. You don't have to use vinyl. You can use ANY fabric that is heavy enough: felted wool, leather, oilcloth, etc.

Step One: Turn sleeve inside out. Determine how you want it to look, sew across bottom. I also sewed up and down the two sides, because I thought it looked a little tighter that way.

Step Two: Turn it right side out. I decided to add an edge across the top, using a shoelace. I know, why a shoelace? It happened to be an extra I got with a pair of shoes, and I added it to my ribbon bucket. I thought "Hey-this matches nicely." So, that's why a shoelace! Pin (if you are a pinner) and stitch all along the top.

Step Three: Choose a closure. I debated on a button, but screwed up when cutting the height of the project, so I had to go with velcro. I didn't want to sew it, so I simply hot glued it. It seems fine!

I wish I had beige velcro, but I only had black. So, black it is!

Step Four: I added a flower and leaves. The leaves/beige color are just the inside of the vinyl. I used the technique for making flowers in my "Jeans and a Sweater" post. They are simply hot-glued together. Make sure the glue is nice and hot.

So, voila! A cute purse/ipod case. I am thinking it works best as an ipod case...but this can be adapted to make a simple coin purse too!!
